If animals could speak,

It was far over midnight but Joli couldn't find the sleep. She was almost curled up into a ball, sitting against a low wall of stone. Tears found their way down her cheeks. Believe it or not, Joli had the greatest time ever on Westwood. She hadn't thought her life ever would be fun again. But sometimes it was to much and thinking of her life back when she was in France still had a great impact on her.
That made her think of that night. The night when she saw the light again. The day she had found hope. All because of that one man that saved her that day. Maybe it wasn't his intention, but he really had saved her.
Did he even know?
Joli hoped he knew. She hoped he knew how much he meant for her. And not only in that way...
The girl sighed.
Damn, what had got into me?

She looked up at the beautiful night sky. Joli always loved the starry night. Every night, if the sky was clear, she would sneak out of the house and lay down on the grassfield not far from that. She would look out for falling stars, the milky way and new stars.
Looking at it now made her both happy and sad. It reminded her of the peaceful nights she had but also of the bad days where she needed that nights to calm down.

Suddenly she saw a black shadow at the sky. Joli narrowed her eyes and saw that it was a bird. A big bird. It was a predator, for sure.
'Hey!' she called out to it. She waved her hand and signed to come. A little talk can no hurt...

He loved flying. Being able to soar over the trees, seeing all your problems from up so high. He sighed, his beak opened slightly. He had a lot of problems to think about. For example, his brother Hannes. He hadn't made a friend yet, even though he had been at the school for quite some time. Or take Sophie- she didn't pay attention in class, except for biology, maths and a couple other classes. Or Joli. Joli had extreme panic attacks, during which she couldn't control her power.
Oh, there she was. What was she still doing outside, at this hour? When he got closer, he heard her cry. 'Hey!' She called in her thick French accent. She waved at him, signing him to come. He sighed again and got closer, landing on the wall of stone she was sitting against.
'Hey.'

'Hey,' the falcon said.
Joli greeted him with a nod and quickly dried her tears with her hand.
'I saw you flying and I though, why not talk for a while. I mean, if you want, ofcourse,' she laughed nervously.
She needed the distraction. Hopefully the falcon would stay for a while...
'What's your name? Mine is Joli, by the way,' she smiled.

She greeted him with a quick nod. 'I saw you flying and I though, why not talk for a while. I mean, if you want, ofcourse,'
He made a small kreeeeh noise that falcons make. The girl laughed nervously. 'What's your name? Mine is Joli, by the way,' she gave a warm smile.
He went up and down with his wings, you know, the weird thing birds do, like kind of wanting to start flying but staying on the ground while violently flapping its wings.
Uhhhh... 'I don't have a name.'
He made a weird noise again. 'Why were you crying?'

Joli laughed at the gestures he made. Animals are so weird, that's why she loved them. Plus thousands of other reasons, ofcourse.
'I don't have a name,' the falcon said.
Joli frowned. 'Oh well, why not give you a name huh?' she smiled.
'Why were you crying?' he than asked.
Joli went silent. 'Oh, nothing,' she brushed off. 'Let me give you a name!' Her voice was full of excitement.
'Hmmm... What do you think of... Friedrich?' she asked, a smile playing on her lips, her eyes expectant. 'I think it's a formidable name!'

Joli went silent. What had happened? Friedrich frowned. 'Let me give you a name!'
He'd raise an eyebrow, if he had one. She sounded happy, but she had been crying only moments ago. Something wasn't right here. 'Hmmm... What do you think of... Friedrich? I think it's a formidable name!'
OK, he'd definitely raise an eyebrow now. Why did she pick his own name though? He kreeee'd again. 'Sure'
He cleaned his wings with his beak. 'What are you doing here, so late?'

Joli waited full of anticipation on his reaction. What did he think of the name?
'Sure,' he said.
Joli's eyes lit up with enthusiasm. 'Great!'
'What are you doing here, so late?' the falcon asked. Joli looked at him.
'Ah, nothing special. I just needed some fresh air,' she explained, a small but kinda awkward smile on her lips.
'I've never seen you here before,' Joli said. 'And I know almost every animal near Westwood.'

'Why that name though?' he said. He squishes his little falconeyes together, until you could only see a really small, black ... uhh I'll stop here because most of the people reading this will probably have ... thoughts. Anyway, he was staring at her, kind of holding the deathglare-ish thing he has back (not that it worked), trying to not fucking intimidate her.

'Why that name though?' he said.
Joli looked at him, surprised with his sudden change of subject.
'Eh, oh well...' she didn't know what to say. Ah well, she did. Kinda. But it was kinda... weird? She observed the falcon. He had his eyes squished together and he looked kind off intimitade. It reminded her of someone though. She blushed.
'Well I, eh.. I like the, eh, the name,' she explaind. 'I mean... Yeah.. Well, there is a, eh, a teacher... And eh, he has that name.'
Why am I so fucking awkward, it's just a falcon, he isn't gonna hurt me...
'I eh... I kinda like that teacher, to be honest... Like... Really like, actually. Hehe.'
